Yahoo! is ruining everything that was once good about the web

I just upgraded my phone to a Nokia N95 a few weeks ago. Pretty impressive phone on paper, but to be honest it’s a bit underwhelming in practice. That said, wifi and gps in your handset is still a big leap forward. The My Location feature on Google Maps Mobile alone makes it all worth it.

So I thought I’d resurect my Flickr account and starting playing with Geotagging, because as luck would have it Nokia and Flickr have joined forces, so it should be fairly straight forward right? Well, not really. Nokia’s Location Tagger and Share Online 3.0 installed without any problems, Flickr on the otherhand just does not want to play along.

That’s where the frustration starts setting in. I signed up flickr years ago, before it had even become a photo sharing service (when it was still Game Neverending) The really amazing thing about the site was that it was very personal. Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield used to hang out and chat on the site and help out with issues where ever they could.

Enter Yahoo! and everything has changed. Try finding some support for Geotagging or anything specifically related to the Flickr / nokia partnership. It will only lead to frustration! I did managed to find a post relating to the exact issue I was having, but it hasn’t been attended to at all.

I eventually managed to get it working (sort of) but now the data is not showing up in the geofeed and I can’t find anything that says if it’s just a queuing issue or if there’s something wrong with the tags.

Thing is, del.icio.us has been buggy of late too and just trying to get a bit of help turns into a massive mission.

Oh well, enough of that.
